Course aims:

To obtain knowledge and skills concerning clinical and laboratory fabrication of fixed and removable prosthetic restorations. To obtain knowledge and skills regarding patient’s examination, diagnostic, treatment planning, pretreatment, selection of removable, fixed and implant-retained restorations in various prosthetic conditions. To obtain knowledge and skills in the area of prosthetic materials science, co-operation between dental clinic and dental laboratory.

Types of educational activities and number of hours allocated:

90 hours 9 semester: lectures- 10 hours, seminars – 15 hours, workshops- 65 hours

Learning activities and teaching methods:

The 9th semester prosthodontics course consist of lectures, seminars and clinical classes The lectures are supported with multimedia presentations . The seminars are based on discussion concerning treatment planning, multimedia presentations and movies. The step-by-step clinical procedures are discussed. Clinical classes are conducted In Department of Prosthodontics. Students conduct treatment under experienced medical supervision. Students carry out interview, examination, diagnostic, planning, pretreatment, selection of various prosthetic restorations and prosthetic treatment.

1. Dental chart. Cooperation with dental laboratory.

2. Repetition of anamnesis and patient examination. Discussion about examination, treatment planning and step-by-step prosthetic procedures conducted by students.

3. Repetition of metal and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. Discussion about examination, treatment planning and step-by-step prosthetic procedures conducted by students.

4. Repetition of all-ceramic crowns. Discussion about examination, treatment planning and step-by-step prosthetic procedures conducted by students.

5. Repetition of temporary crowns. Discussion about examination, treatment planning and step-by-step prosthetic procedures conducted by students.

6. Repetition of luting agents, conventional and adhesive luting procedures. Discussion about examination, treatment planning and step-by-step prosthetic procedures conducted by students.

7. Repetition of post and core restorations. Discussion about examination, treatment planning and step-by-step prosthetic procedures conducted by students.

Assessment methods and criteria:

To be credited every student of the 9-th semester shall comply with all of the following requirements:

1. Students are required to be present during all scheduled hours (students returning from absences will need to complete make-up class)

2. Students are required to obtain at least 60 points (60%) on repetition quizzes (marks: failed- 0 points, sufficient – 3 points, good – 4 points, excellent – 5 points). There are total number of 14 quizzes in 6-th semester. Only two failed quizzes can be retaken.

3. Students are required to accomplish clinical procedures (at least 30 points per year):

o patient examination and treatment planning – 0,5p

o primary impression – 0,5p

o denture adjustment – 0,5p

o tooth filling – 1p

o try-in of teeth set-up – 1p

o delivery of the denture – 1p

o denture repair – 1p

o articulation of the casts – 1p

o interim crown – 2p

o metal crown, p-f-m crown, all-ceramic crown – 2p

o centric relation registration – 2p

o final impression – 2p

o post and core – 3p

o inlay, onlay – 3p

o porcelain veneer – 3p

4. Students are required to pass the final practical exam and written test.
